This splitboard course is designed to take advanced off-piste snowboarders away from the ski resorts and into the wilder backcountry areas of the Chablais mountain range. Splitboarding is all about strapping in, trekking out and riding untracked terrain that just isn’t possible to get to by hiking.
The Chablais alps are situated between Lake Geneva and the Mont Blanc Massif, stretching through both France and Switzerland. This 5 day splitboard course will take you into the wild side of the Chablais, away from the ski resorts, exploring different areas and summiting new peaks each day.
Throughout the course there is also a strong focus on progressing your mountain safety skills so you can better assess risks and travel more safely in the backcountry. This will be combined with splitboarding skills and technique ensuring that every day is informative & educational as well as a whole lot of fun.
A very good level of fitness is needed to make sure you get the most out of each day.
We also offer a splitboard course in arctic Norway for splitboarders wanting to travel further afield.
An optional part of this course will be to do a 2 day tour involving a nights stay in a mountain refuge. This will be dependent on the group and on conditions.
5 Full Days
Max 6 (Min 4)
You will explore the wilder side of the Chablais region with lines you didn’t even know existed. Think secret powder bowls and hidden couloirs on mountains you have never previously visited.
You will also develop a greater awareness of risk management with respect to snow conditions, choosing approach and decent lines and avalanche rescue. All of this will add to your knowledge to gain greater confidence in the backcountry.
The Chablais Splitboard course is for advanced level riders with a good amount of previous off piste experience. This should include riding a variety of terrain and snow conditions, including tree runs and steeper slopes. You must have a very good level of fitness, enabling you to tour for up to 2-3 hours a day. Being in good shape will ensure you have plenty of energy to enjoy the long descents which follow! Previous splitboard experience is useful but not essential.
Travelling alone? Not a problem! Our snowboard courses are designed with solo-travellers in mind. They are a great way to explore the backcountry with other riders of your level… and you will end the week with a bunch of new snowboard friends!
This course has no set itinerary as the week will be spent chasing the best backcountry conditions we can find. Your Mountain Guide, David, will decide on a daily basis where to head depending on weather and snow conditions along with some input from the group.
