Known for it’s consistently deep snow and incredible terrain, Engelberg is rightly regarded as one of the world’s best ski resorts for backcountry snowboarding. Join us for 5 full days of professional backcountry snowboard guiding, along with hotel accommodation, in this epic location.
Engelberg really is an off piste paradise, with its serious big mountain terrain and over 2000m of vertical descent offering endless off piste opportunities tucked away just out of bounds. The BIG 5 classic itineraries in Engelberg include the world famous Laub descent with over 1000m descent at a constant 30-40 degree pitch. This place really does offer endless snowboarding adventures, think of it as Switzerland’s version of La Grave!
Nestled between numerous high peaks, location plays a key role to the high quality and quantity of Engelberg’s snow pack. The terrain is diverse boasting glaciers, steep descents as well as tree-lined glades of every shape and size.
This course is led by David Gladwin, one of only a handful of professional snowboard instructors to hold the BASI Level 4 ISTD, French Carte Pro and UIAGM Mountain Guide qualification. Dave has the qualifications, knowledge and experience to take you further, deeper and steeper than pretty much anyone else in the world.

On top of that you will develop a greater awareness of risk management with respect to snow conditions, choosing approach and decent lines and avalanche rescue. All of this will add to your knowledge to gain greater confidence in approaching backcountry snowboarding.
This backcountry course in Engelberg is for advanced level riders with a good amount of previous off piste experience. This should include riding a variety of terrain and snow conditions, including tree runs and steeper slopes. You should have a good level of fitness to ensure that you get the most of the week. You are looking to explore challenging & exciting terrain at a fast pace with the safety and knowledge of a professional mountain guide to lead the way.
Travelling alone? Not a problem! Our snowboard courses are designed with solo-travellers in mind. They are a great way to explore the backcountry with other riders of your level… and you will end the week with a bunch of new snowboard friends!
This course has no set itinerary for the week. Your Mountain Guide, David, will decide on a daily basis where to head depending on weather and snow conditions along with some input on preferences from the group. Expect a fun and exciting week with daily backcountry adventures to get your heart racing!

Accommodation is included, in twin shared rooms at Hotel Crystal. The hotel is located in the heart of Engelberg, just a few minutes walk from the town center and the train station. Hotel Crystal offers comfortable rooms with modern charm and spectacular views. You will be well energised for the day ahead with the generous breakfast buffet and then refuelled in the evenings with 3 course evening meals at the hotel’s restaurant each night. To top it off you have access to the hotel’s Alpine Spa which includes a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, steam bath and relaxation room.
