THE BENEFITS OF STARTING SNOWBOARDING YOUNG

Introducing children to snowboarding at an early age can set the stage for a lifelong love of the sport. We believe that starting as young as three years old can also offer kids so much more than just this.

Here’s why getting your mini shredders on a snowboard early is a fantastic idea:

1. Love for the Outdoors

In a world increasingly dominated by screens, developing a love for the outdoors is more important than ever. Snowboarding gets children outside and immersed in nature, helping to promote a healthy and active lifestyle that they will hopefully continue into adult life. Spending time in the mountains will also help kids to develop an appreciation for the environment and our unique planet, hopefully giving them a motivation to protect it for themselves & future generations.

2. Boost Confidence and Independence

Learning to snowboard can help boost a child’s confidence. Mastering new skills on the slopes provides a sense of accomplishment, with kids desperate to show parents what they’ve learnt at the end of a lesson. The excitement of successfully riding down a hill for the first time, or doing their first tail press, teaches kids that they can achieve great things through practice and a little perseverance.

Heading off for a few hours of fun with a friendly snowboard instructor will also encourage independence away from the comfort zone of mum & dad.

3. Physical Development

Like many sports, snowboarding promotes strength, balance, and coordination. For young children, the snowboard stance is a very natural body position from which they will develop fine motor skills.

The physical benefits gained from snowboarding will cross over into other sports and activities that kids are introduced to in childhood and vice versa.

Snowboarding helps build strong muscles, improve motor skills, and boost overall fitness.

4. Social Skills and Friendships

Snowboarding offers a wonderful opportunity for young children to make new friends and develop social skills, in particular within group lessons. Interacting with peers and instructors in a fun, structured environment helps children learn teamwork, communication and empathy. These can lead to lasting friendships and a sense of community within snowboarding.

5. Valuable Life Lessons

Snowboarding teaches children to overcome challenges and build resilience. Whether they are a total beginner, or trying to learn a new trick, falling and getting back up is a natural part of learning to snowboard. A good snowboard instructor will incorporate this process into the fun of learning. They will help kids to understand that falling is totally normal and that perseverance is key to improvement, no matter what speed they are progressing.

6. Family Bonding

Snowboarding is a fantastic activity for the whole family to enjoy together. Starting young allows children to join in family snowboarding trips and activities, creating shared experiences and awesome holiday memories!
