Lofoten Splitboard Adventure – Arctic Norway

Lofoten Splitboard Adventure – Arctic Norway - Description

The Lofoten Islands, in Norway’s arctic north, are one of the most magical splitboard destinations on earth. Mountains rise up out of the sea, making it a rugged coastline dotted with sheltered bays and untouched summits.

The mountains of Lofoten offer incredible splitboarding variety with huge open slopes, wider couloirs, narrow chutes and open forests. There are peaks to suit all abilities, from those relatively new to splitboarding as well as options for big vertical days and couloirs.

In March, you can expect reliable snow with winter conditions allowing you to snowboard summit to the sea as well as a good chance of getting fresh snow during your trip.

The islands and fjords are linked by an excellent network of roads and bridges. Travelling around by minibus we have lots of flexibility to make best use of the prevailing weather as well as visiting and making ascents on the different islands that make up Lofoten.

Our base will be at the very comfortable Lofoten Ski Lodge in the town of Svolvaer, where there are lots of splitboard summits within easy reach. At the Lofoten Ski Lodge you can enjoy the comfort of cozy lounges, amazing food, renovated cabins and a big sauna with sea views.

This trip is run by David Gladwin, one of only a handful of professional snowboard instructors to hold the BASI Level 4 ISTD, French Carte Pro as well as the UIAGM Mountain Guide qualification. Dave has the qualifications, knowledge and experience to take you further, deeper and steeper than pretty much anyone else in the world.

Optional Extras

Renting a boat. There is the option of renting a boat for the day as a means to access even more remote terrain for the ultimate splitboard adventure!

Arctic Surf. If conditions and time allow, there is also the possibility of surfing the world class waves of Unstad, surrounded by breathtaking views of snow-covered mountaintops and cliffs. Wetsuits and surfboards can be rented in Unstad.

A 7 night stay with 6 guided days splitboarding

Explore the breathtaking scenery of Arctic Norway by snowboard – if you are a passionate snowboarder who loves to discover new destinations, this is a trip has to be on your bucket list! Snowboard epic powder in this dramatic and isolated destination with a week big smiles and tired legs!

Travelling alone? Not a problem!

Our snowboard camps are designed for solo-travellers and those joining in small groups.

With the vast majority joining as singles, our snowboard trips are the perfect way to meet like-minded people and expand your snowboard crew.

Enjoy a week progressing your snowboarding with expert tuition, learning in a small group with others of the same level… and by day 2 you will already have a bunch of new snowboard friends! If you have any concerns about booking a snowboard holiday alone, no need to worry, our office team is here to help make everything simple & easy.

Is this for me?

The Lofoten Arctic trip is for advanced level riders with previous off piste experience. This should include riding a variety of terrain and snow conditions, including tree runs and steeper slopes. You must have a good level of fitness, enabling you to tour for up to 2-3 hours a day. Being in good shape will ensure you have plenty of energy to enjoy the long descents which follow! Previous splitboard experience is useful but not essential.

This course has no set itinerary for the week. Your Mountain Guide, David, will decide on a daily basis where to head depending on weather and snow conditions along with some input on preferences from the group.

Day 1: Warm up day to include a refresh of avalanche & mountain safety skills

Day 2: Splitboard adventure

Day 3: Splitboard adventure

Day 4: Splitboard adventure

Day 5: Splitboard adventure

Day 6: Splitboard adventure

Typical Day

A typical day in Lofoten involves waking up and enjoying breakfast to stunning sea views. With your guide you will finalise plans for the day based on the weather and conditions that day. Once you have made your pack lunch and are ready to go, we travel by minibus to the start of the days tour (anything from a 5 min to 1 hr drive). We will splitboard all day, or until your legs can take it no more. Days will consist of either one long vertical tour or the option to do several summits. At the end of the day you can enjoy apres-ski waffles and coffee (or beer) back at the lodge or head to one of the bars in Svolvaer. Enjoy a well deserved and delicious evening meal a great atmosphere before relaxing at the bar or in one of the lounges.
