This course is not running for 2019/2020, please see the Lofoten Splitboard Course page.
The course is the perfect blend of splitboarding and traditional backcountry riding!
New for 2019 we are taking you to the hidden gems of Zinal & Grimentz in Switzerland. These resorts in the Val d’Anniviers are a well kept secret and are one of our favourite backcountry locations in the alps, perfect for both splitboarding and traditional off piste snowboarding. This high altitude ski area with a reputation for fantastic snow cover boasts a huge variety in terrain choice and has slopes of all aspects, perfect for spring riding. Expect to be exhilarated by 1000+ m descents and hidden backcountry bowls which are barely tracked.
Our Splitboard Freeride course is a mix of splitboarding and traditional backcountry riding. The mix of both gives the freedom to spend the days splitboarding on longer tours or doing short hike backcountry riding depending on the weather and snow conditions.
The week is led by our high mountain guide (UIAGM) David Gladwin. Each day David will use his vast knowledge of the mountain areas of the Portes du Soleil to hunt out the very best snow conditions and then take you there so you can ride the best powder possible during the course.
Throughout the week David will develop your splitboarding technique and technical backcountry riding by coaching you in the skills and techniques needed to ride off-piste; on natural terrain and in varying snow conditions. The course also has a strong emphasis on mountain safety. You will also develop your skills needed to approach the backcountry safely & responsibly. This includes, analysis of terrain & snowpack conditions to ensure safe ascents & descents and advanced avalanche search & rescue training.
The Splitboard Freeride course is based in the Val d’Anniviers for the full week with the decision on whether to splitboard or short hike being dependent on the local weather and snow conditions.
6 nights accommodation & 5 full days of splitboard & backcountry guiding
Group size: Max 6 (Min 4)
Discover somewhere new in the hidden gems of Zinal and Grimentz! You will spend a week riding some fantastic peaks deep in the backcountry of the Val d’Anniviers region. You will progress your splitboarding and your technical riding technique as well as develop a greater awareness of mountain safety, including practical training on the risks associated with avalanches.
This is a fun week of adventure with lots of exciting snowboarding, but always conducted with maximum attention to safety.
This course is for strong intermediate and advanced riders who are experienced and confident in riding all off-piste snow conditions. This might be your first splitboard experience or you may have done some touring before. Expect to splitboard up to 3 hours a day with ascents between 400 – 800 m of vertical ascent. As such you will need to have a good level of fitness for this course (doing cardiovascular sports 3-4 times a week to maintain fitness).
Travelling alone? Not a problem! Our snowboard courses are designed with solo-travellers in mind. They are a great way to progress your snowboarding, learning in a small group with others of the same level… and you will end the week with a bunch of new snowboard friends!
This course has no set itinerary for the week. Your Mountain Guide, David, will decide on a daily basis where to head depending on weather and snow conditions along with some input on preferences from the group. Between the ski areas of Zinal and Grimentz there is a huge amount of choice in terrain available, with all slope aspects covered, so always somewhere perfect for that days conditions.
