If you want to maintain your relationships we strongly advise that you don’t teach your friends, partners, sister or brothers to snowboard! Apart from the fact that familiarity means that you will be the person they take out their frustrations on you may also pass on ‘bad’ habits you didn’t even know you had.
It’s true that every now and then, instructors do bear the brunt of a client’s frustrations but it generally quickly dissipates and there is no opportunity to carry it on in the pub that night. In the words of one of our very own clients… ‘it just spells disaster’… need we say more.
Read on for our 10 reasons why you should choose lessons over being taught by a friend!
- It is far more inappropriate to get irritated with an instructor if you are feeling frustrated and so take a deep breath and carry on!
- It is not as easy to quit when the going gets tough
- All Mints instructors are qualified to the highest international standard and super experienced across all aspects of snowboarding
- You will be taught how to snowboard following a well thought out and researched teaching system
- The instructor will have a wealth of knowledge and techniques to help you get past annoying niggles
- Learning to snowboard properly from the start will give you the confidence and solid riding skills to progress your riding further
- An instructor won’t give up on you!
- The coaching stays on the mountain and doesn’t follow you home allowing you to take a break and look forward to the next days lesson
- There is a mutual respect between your instructor and you
- Good banter and interesting chat with someone new on the chair lift!!
Are you thinking about qualifying as a ski or snowboard instructor?
Peak Leaders are offering skiers and snowboarders of all ages the opportunity to attend a free taster day at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead on Friday the 25th of October 2013. This is a great way to find out more about the snowboard instructor training course that Mint Snowboarding runs with Peak Leaders in Morzine, starting January 2014!
This is an opportunity for skiers and snowboarders who are interested in becoming a certified instructor, during their gap year or as a career change, to be introduced to exactly what Peak Leaders do. The event will kick-off at 10.15am and involve a 90 minute free on-snow coaching session, with some of Peak Leaders’ instructor trainers, and a chat from their team. The on-snow coaching session will be delivered by some of the best trainers in the business and introduce skiers and snowboarders to life as a trainee instructor, but without the Après Ski this time! Coffee, soft drinks and croissants will be available to all attendees on arrival and prizes will be given-out during the training session.

We are stoked to announce that our partners Peak Leaders have also collaborated with Burton Snowboards, helping us to train the next generation of snowboard instructors on Burton’s latest teaching philosophies and methods.
Here at Mint Snowboarding, an official Burton ‘Experience snowboarding’ Centre we will be coaching the trainees over 10 week course in Morzine, France starting early January 2013. Mint will train the Peak Leaders trainees primarily for their BASI Level 1 and 2 instructor exams and the ‘Experience Snowboarding’ philosophies and methods will be taught additionally.
Burton’s ‘Experience Snowboarding’ programme dramatically changes the dynamic of a snowboard lesson and allows instructors to use specifically designed terrain and specially designed Burton ‘Learn To Ride’ product.
During the 10 week programme in Morzine, trainees will have the opportunity to shred with Burton Team riders and have an ‘uber tech session’ with their in-house experts. Not only that but all snowboard trainees will be offered Burton gear at a very special rate!
Burton may also select the strongest trainees to use as instructors and helpers at their Riglet Camps and Demo days in the UK.

Check out some of the testimonials we have received so far this winter:
‘Me and Nikki just wanted to say a big thanks to you and Dave for the snowboard lessons. Nikki was in group lessons last week taken by Dave Cooper. She said he was by far the best instructor she’d had, always calm and gave good encouragement. A big plus as well was that everyone in the group was almost at exactly the same level.’ Dave Streatfield
‘Thank you all very much for my lessons last week. I had an excellent time and have been commented on how much I improved over the week (girlfriend much happier to ski with me now). Dave was an excellent instructor and generally pushed me well out of my comfort zone without scaring me too much. I was also surprised at how well Dave coped with a group feeling that I had a very personal service even in a group. If I return to Morzine you guys will be my first stop.’ Graeme Higginbotham
‘Great teaching and a good giggle!’ Mike Taylor-West
‘Hi Tammy, just writing to say thanks to Mint and David for the lessons. The private lesson last year with you and the group lessons with Dave this year have moved my boarding on a lot. Your approach to teaching is awesome so thank you.’ Dave Clack
‘We have just got back from a week in Morzine where our son Angus had snowboarding lessons from Grant at Mint. The quality of tuition was fantastic, the progress he made was amazing and he is now a convert to snowboarding. Thanks to Grant for making Angus’s holiday such as success.’ Ian, Beth and Angus Binnian
‘My 2 hour lesson with Tammy started my holiday off to a really positive start. Her ability to teach and explain technique was excellent, and I came away with a smile on my face and a lot more confidence in my own ability. I would definitely recommend MINT.’ Rowena Edwards
‘Just wanted to say thanks again for a brilliant lesson on Sunday. I was out for 4 hours yesterday, practicing on the same runs and capped it off with a run from Le Vaffieu to the base of the Pleney Ski Lift at the end of the afternoon – I was knackered after that, but grinning like the Cheshire Cat !’ Donald Stark
‘Just wanted to say how pleased we were with the course. Lessons were great fun and we really felt we had achieved a lot at the end of the three days, so big thanks to Dave and yourself.’ Lisa Basch
‘Just a quick note to say how much I appreciated the coaching I received from the Mint team during my recent visit to Morzine. The coaching I received from David Gladwin was fantastic. In three days I went from not being able to snowboard at all to linking turns! David’s tuition and attention to form were spot-on.’ Jon Shelby
‘David was an excellent instructor and made the week really enjoyable.’ Andrew & Vicky Curtis
