NEW for winter 2015/16 Mint Snowboarding will be offering a Technical Performance Course, running weekly.
The Technical Performance Course gives you technical progression in all areas of your riding, such as carving, steeper terrain, off piste, bumps & freestyle. It will change the way you ride and consequently enhance your enjoyment on the mountain.
Who is the course for?
Intermediate & advanced level riders; especially those of you who may have developed your snowboard skills & style alone with little guidance from lessons or coaching. There is only so far you can progress your snowboarding without some professional input. Get some coaching and this will improve your riding way beyond any investments on equipment.
Day 1: Developing riding technique. Teaching you the techniques which will enable you to use your equipment effectively and develop a fluid riding style. Including advice on equipment and optimising your setup
Day 2: Teaching you the movements required to enable technical progression and using this to increase board performance. This day includes video coaching to analyse and develop your riding
Day 3: Implementing your new skills across a range of terrain and tasks.
Day 4: Off piste riding. Advancing your riding technique on natural terrain and varying snow conditions.
Day 5: Introducing freestyle skills both in and out of the snow park, including switch riding.
When: Running weekly, Monday to Friday in the mornings
Cost: 335€ pp
Group size: Small group of maximum 6 (min 4 required)
Les Crosets, on the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil, is home to a great in park for intermediate to expert level riders and is in a wonderful sunny location. Jumps in Les Crosets Superpark range from 6m to 20m+ tabletops as well as a whole host of cool features. The line of about 6 smaller jumps are down the left hand side (skiers left) and the big jumps and jibs are in the centre and down the right hand side. At the bottom of the snowpark there is a natural halfpipe; great for boosting out of on the way down 8 man Express chairlift servicing the park.
The Chatel SmoothPark, located in the Super Chatel area, is a fun park with a wide range of jumps and jib features. It is generally quieter than the Avoriaz & Croset parks. In 2012 the Smoothpark hosted the French leg of the ‘Nike Chosen Series’, giving proof that Chatel’s park shapers definitely know what they’re doing. At the bottom of the park is an airbag, free of charge and open from 12h to 15h. The park is serviced by two button lifts and also has a boardercross track down the length of it.
The park at Les Gets is on the Mont Chery area, which is south facing and in the sun all day. The park is serviced by an old two man chair and is always pretty quite so a good place to head to get away from the crowds during the holiday periods. The Mt Chery park has a number of features; from jumps, rails, boxes and often a wall ride at the bottom.
Les Gets is also home to a decent sized and well maintained boardercross course which runs under the Chavannes lifts. This is definitely the best of the board-cross courses in the Portes du Soleil and great fun for racing against friends.
There is a small snowpark on the Nyon area of Morzine / Pleney slopes, although not very well shaped and often full of ski schools. It does, however, have a fun boardercross course (although much smaller than the one in Les Gets). If you are staying in Morzine and into freestyle riding, then you are better off heading in the Avoriaz direction.
This summer Avoriaz is continuing the investment into modernising its ski lift system with another new chairlift being put in, this time to replace the old Brochaux chairlift. This follows on from two ski lift replacements last summer on the Super-Morzine sector, which had a very positive impact, cutting down the speed of crossing from Morzine to Avoriaz and vice versa via Super-Morzine.
SERMA, the lift company operating the Avoriaz ski lift infrastructure, will be replacing the Brochaux chairlift in time for winter 2015/16 (they say it will be open for December 2015). The rickety old 3 man chair will be replaced by a high speed 6 person chairlift, capable of carrying up to 3000 people per hour. The new lift will follow the line of the old chair, although the top station is being move 280m further up the ridge
The Brochaux chairlift is part of the Lindarets / Mossettes sector. As well as giving access to some awesome off piste routes & the Stash snowpark, the Brochaux lift is also an important means of return to Avoriaz for those having been to Mossettes (also known for some great off piste lines!) and over to Champery on the Swiss side of the Portes du Soleil. Hopefully this should bring an end to the bottleneck at the bottom of the Brochaux towards the end of the day when everyone is returning towards Avoriaz & Morzine.
See you on the new Brochaux chairlift this winter!
